It’s time to start the engines for RP Motorsport, the Italian team able to impose itself at the top of the Euroformula Open championship thanks to the six titles won in the last seven seasons and to the absolute record of successes in the category.

Also in 2019 the team directed by Fabio Pampado and Niki Rocca confirms their commitment to the continental series, with the target of continuing to win and defending the double title of champion obtained thanks to 14 victories of the previous edition.

Before the season debut, scheduled for the weekend of 26/28th April on the French circuit of Paul Ricard, RP Motorsport is pleased to announce the names of the first two drivers who will be on track with the team: Javier Gonzalez, 18 years old from Mexico City , and of the French rookie Pierre-Louis Chovet, just 17 years old. An extremely young and talented line-up, in line with the team’s tradition, waiting to be completed also by a third driver whose name will be revealed in the coming days.

Javier Gonzalez is considered one of the greatest young talents of the South American school. After an explosive ascent in the world of karting, a category in which he collected a total of nine titles (two of which are international) and dozens of victories, he arrived in 2017 in the world of single-seaters. In this context, he achieved seven successes and 17 podium finishes in just two seasons, competing in the Spanish, Italian and French FIA Formula 4. In the final part of 2018 he also took part in the last two events scheduled for the Euroformula Open. In his path of rapid ascent, he aims to be the next Mexican driver to reach the goal of Formula One.

Pierre-Louis Chovet, born in Avignon on April 11th 2002, is a very young French driver able to stand out from his first experiences in the karting world. After making his debut at the age of eleven, he immediately won several races before graduating in 2017 as French champion in the Junior and Senior categories. Results that allowed him to look out to the single-seaters with great ambitions, and at only fifteen he was able to capture his first triumph in the French Formula 4 at Le Castellet circuit. Last year he joined Venturi Formula E Team Academy, taking at the same time five podium finishes and a victory always in the French Formula 4. His target now is to continue his climb to the top of motorsport, facing a new challenge in the Euroformula Open with the colors of the defending champion team.

Niki Rocca (RP Motorsport Team Manager): “We are very pleased to welcome two talented drivers into our team to compete in the 2019 season of Euroformula Open. It is part of our DNA to focus on young drivers, able to reach in their respective careers, as history has often shown, the highest levels of motorsports. Javier and Pierre-Louis have proven to be able to go very fast in their previous experiences on the track, and we are sure that thanks also to the experience of our staff members, they will be able to make a further improvement. We are determined to defend both the titles won last year: we strongly believe in the project of this championship and we are ready as always to give 100% also during this season ”.

The 2019 calendar of the Euroformula Open includes a total of 18 races divided into nine appointments, scheduled on some of the main European racetracks: after the debut at Paul Ricard, it will remain on French soil for the prestigious ‘new-entry’ on the city circuit of Pau (18-19 May). For the third round the series will move to Germany, at the Hockenheim circuit (25-26 May), before the stages of Spa Francorchamps (8-9 June), Hungaroring (6-7 July) and Red Bull Ring (13- 14 July). After the summer break, the championship will be back on track at Silverstone on 7-8 September, before the final rush scheduled in Barcelona (21-22 September) and Monza (12-13 October).
