RP MOTORSPORT COMPLETES ITS LINE-UP WITH ARTEM PETROV FOR THE 2019 SEASON OF EUROFORMULA OPEN

The reigning champion team will put on track the third single-seater for the 19-year-old Russian driver, who will join Javier Gonzalez and Pierre-Louis Chovet

Only a few days to go before the Euroformula Open 2019 season, with the RP Motorsport team ready to defend the double title won in the previous two seasons.

Before the first round that will be staged next weekend on Le Castellet track, the Italian team is pleased to announce the definition of its own line-up of drivers, with the engagement of the 19 years old Artem Petrov for the 2019 vintage. The Russian driver will complete a young and highly competitive line-up, alongside the Mexican Javier Gonzalez and the French Pierre-Louis Chovet, for a season that promises to be particularly balanced and demanding.

Despite his young age, Petrov already has important experience in the world of motorsport: after making his debut at the age of eight in karting, in 2016 he landed in single-seaters, taking part in the Italian Formula 4 Championship and getting two podium finishes in his debut season. The following year he confirmed all his value in the same championship, winning two races and finishing in fifth place in the overall standings, and simultaneously taking part in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship. In the 2018 season Petrov carried out a new and important step, which saw him compete in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship: in this context, he finished three times in the points zone accumulating precious experience on some of the most prestigious European racetracks. The same who will see him protagonist this year in the Euroformula Open with the current champion team of the category, starting from the Paul Ricard inaugural stage.

Niki Rocca (RP Motorsport Team Manager): “We are very pleased to have defined the agreement with Artem Petrov for the 2019 season. He’s a young driver but he already has important experiences in single-seaters, in very high-level contexts. With him we complete a line-up of drivers with an average age of 18, able to mix freshness, determination and a hunger for success. We are sure that, also with the support of our staff, he will be able to continue his growth path: for both, the target is to be on top of the category. We will do everything possible to try to put him in the best conditions to be competitive from the first weekend, and we are sure that together we will be able to achieve excellent results during this season ”.

The 2019 calendar of the Euroformula Open includes a total of 18 races divided into nine appointments, scheduled on some of the main European racetracks: after the debut at Paul Ricard, it will remain on French soil for the prestigious ‘new-entry’ on the city circuit of Pau (18-19 May). For the third round the series will move to Germany, at the Hockenheim circuit (25-26 May), before the stages of Spa Francorchamps (8-9 June), Hungaroring (6-7 July) and Red Bull Ring (13- 14 July). After the summer break, the championship will be back on track at Silverstone on 7-8 September, before the final rush scheduled in Barcelona (21-22 September) and Monza (12-13 October).
